New Orleans Youth Study and Juvenile Justice Center

The new $35 million detention center includes 40 beds, six juvenile courtrooms and offices for the district attorney, public defenders, the clerk of court and the New Orleans Police Department’s juvenile bureau. There are also medical and dental offices, classrooms and a building dedicated to social service agencies.

The Housing Authority of New Orleans donated the 12-acre site in the St. Bernard neighborhood at Encampment and Milton streets.

Upon completion, the Juvenile Justice Center replaced the previous existing 54-year-old, 82-bed Youth Study Center at 1100 Milton St.
